Joel Meyerowitz
Joel Meyerowitz is a street photographer and portrait and landscape photographer.
In this photograph by "Joel Meyerowitz" it seems to be taken at a birds eye view. This means he has captured this image of nature through the eyes of birds, which as humans we are naturally unable to see and do. This gives the viewer a different perspective of nature and the way we see things. It is unique and exciting view, of an iconic landmark. Looking down at the image you can the trees which have been planted in the ground. The trees in the image create a scattered and not ordered pattern, Due to the fact that the trees in the image do not have a perfect and ordered pattern, it may reflect life. Even though life is not perfect and ordered does not mean it is not beautiful. A breath taking piece of art and instantly captures the eyes with its colour and tone. There are many different colours and tone in this image. Most of the colours concerning the image are blues, browns, oranges, pinks and purples, The mixture of all of the colours together in the horizon creates almost like a seamless ombre effect. This creates many illusions of supernatural effects to the picture. |
Imogen Cunningham
Imogen Cunnigham was an American photographer for her botanical photography, nudes and industrial landscapes.
In this photography taken my Cunnigham, there are lighter tones throughout the especially on the outer parts of the "plant" it seems to be. Lighter tones allows the photograph to stand out more and be more vivid. The different shades of the lighter tones creates an illusions of the "plant" slowly opening. Even though this is an image, it seems like a gradual film of the plant slowly releasing it self and soon open to reveal something. As the plant is curved its almost like it is covering and hiding something. This image reflects secrecy and hiding in the shadows due to the lack of opening in the plants. There seems to be texture in the plant because on the edges of where the plant is curved, it seems to have spikes. This also relates to secret as if you try to manually force it upon before it is time to naturally open, there will be consequences. The shapes that are the most prominent in this image, will have to be triangles. Also there are many lines and shadows of lines which adds to the illusions of the plant slowly unfolding and revealing its insides. The triangle shapes in the image is also concerns the formal element of pattern, because there seems to be many plants next to each other, meaning the triangle shape in the plant is related multiple times. |
Max Waldam
"Color Town"
This image taken by Waldam has been captured in black and white, with many dark tones involved with the image. Majority of the tones in this image are darker tones, especially on the side of the tree and also with the shadows of the people and the trees. Darker tones allows lighter tones to contrast against each other and make them stand out and be more prominent. The lighter tones in this image can be seen on the house and also part of peoples clothing.
The main light source of this image would have to be natural light from the sun because at the top of the house you can see the contrast between the shadow and the sunlight. Also, as the image has been captured in black and white you can sill see that it was a very sunny day. The man nearer to the camera is in shade and there are lots of shadowing leaning towards the left of the photograph, his skin is also glowing maybe due to him sweating or the sunlight bouncing upon his skin.
There are many lines involved with this image. the trees trunk are thicker lines compared to the signal lines at the top of the image. Also relating to the trees trunk, the shadows also have lines. These cut through the image and allows the viewer to clearly see what is going on in each part of the image due to the fact that it seems very congested and busy.
Majority of texture that is in this image is from the trees, they seem very rough and hard and you can vividly imagine the texture and feel of the trees.

My images
While taking these photos, i made sure i focused on the main elements that the photographers also focused on. For Joel image, i focused on colour, i wanted bright colours to be involved in creation these images, simply because joel had neon bright purples and pinks in the horizon when photographing the grand canyon. Imogen photographs, focused and organic objects and also pattern, knowing this i took images very up close the plants such as leaves and i also took images which included patterns, focusing on line and other type of geometric shapes. Concerning Max Waldman image, tone and trees were the main focus. Knowing this i took images of trees, mostly tree trunks so that i was able to see different types of tone involved with the trunks. As these images were to be raw, it was very important for me to find objects that naturally showed darker tones.
