Artist research:
Lisette model, was born in Austria and took up photography in Paris as she formally never studied photography. During the 1930s, model focused on photographing self portraits and created one of her most exhibited pieces of work called the "Riveria" series, where she took self portraits on the promenade des anglais. Model finally moved to New York city where she finally settled. Model took images of New York City, especially through glass shop windows were you are able to see people. Her pictures were edited into black and white, allowing the viewer to easily see the reflection without any colour distractions. She carried on her knowledge and skill of photographing portraits but added the style of reflection and the theme of city into her work. Her view of the city through her images seemed to be perceived as posh and high class. She showed everyday New York in a new light as by taking pictures of reflections almost turned into a metaphor of comparison. |
